MCE's managing director, Paul McErlean, reflects on his recent visit to Leeds for the UK Real Estate Investment & Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF).
"It is hard to believe that it’s already been a week since Martin Mallon and I did the morning run at the UK Real Estate Investment & Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF) in Leeds. It was a great start to what was an interesting conference and exhibition, the first attempt at a UK version of the famous Cannes jamboree that is MIPIM. For a first go, it was a very decent effort, and all the major UK cities appeared to be there.
Belfast was well represented from both the public and private sector, and it was good to see some of the participating City Deal Councils (Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council; Ards and North Down Borough Council; Mid and East Antrim Borough Council) also there.
I certainly felt it was worthwhile going, though the big challenge next year will be to bring in more private sector development organisations and the big funders - so that the development aspirations of the cities and regions can be met with private investment interest.
I also enjoyed seeing the regeneration of the river area of Leeds whilst out on the run (though marathon-boy Mallon did go further than me!). I think last week proved, post COVID, that the days of big exhibitions and conferences are back"
